Job Summary

Supervise the daily operations of the Single Billing Office's operational units. Supervise and oversee the flow of account and information processing to ensure efficient operations, timely resolution of requests and inquiries. Ensure that personnel and operational functions of the Self-Pay Follow-Up / Collections unit are managed in compliance with Medical Center and Department policies and objectives.

Assist / direct staff on any inquiry or question related to operational and administrative matters. Review and resolve to the best of one's ability. Counsel or direct staff on appropriate procedures in future circumstances. Offer timely and constructive feedback to personnel regarding expectations and individual and team performance.
Serve as a liaison between department leadership and staff. Be the immediate reviewer of questions and identify if there is an existing resolution. If the issue needs review and answer from department leadership, initiate the question and manage the resolution accordingly.

Mentor and teach staff. Provide regular feedback on how better to improve one's professional skill set.
Be a "leader" to the SBO team. Lead by example. Promote positive working relationships and attitudes in the workplace. Exemplify UCSF Health's PRIDE values. Develop and implement changes in policies, desk-level procedures and production standards.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years equivalent experience/training.
  • Three years or more of supervisory or managerial experience in a healthcare billing or collections office environment.
  • Five years or more of experience in a hospital billing office environment or revenue cycle functionalities.
  • Five years or more of working knowledge of the rules and regulations of Medicare, Medi-Cal, managed care and commercial insurance.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of revenue cycle management practices and concepts, charge master, billing, coding and/or collection regulations.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and persuasiveness, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse clinical, business, technical, and financial personnel at all professional and technical levels.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with management across the medical center on new metrics, standardization of reporting/data, and project management processes.
  • Skilled in written and verbal communications, with the ability to effectively motivate others, to convey complex information clearly and concisely to prepare and present a variety of reports and analyses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and delegate assignments efficiently.
  • In-depth knowledge of all relevant information technology, including prior working experience with Epic systems. Knowledge of BOTH Epic Hospital (HB) and Professional Billing (PB) application experience strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree

License/Certification

Preferred Certifications:

  • Lean / Sig-Sigma Certification
  • CPC, RHIA
  • Epic PB or HB Application
