OverviewResearch Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment. The AI Frameworks team at Microsoft develops Artificial Intelligence (AI) software that enables running AI models everywhere, from world's fastest AI supercomputers, to servers, desktops, mobile phones, IoT devices, and internet browsers. We collaborate with our hardware teams and hardware partners to build the software stacks for novel AI accelerators. We work closely with Microsoft Research (MSR) researchers and developers to optimize and scale out model training and inference. The team operates at the intersection of AI algorithmic innovation, purpose-built AI hardware, systems, and software. We are a cross-discipline team of highly capable and motivated people with a collaborative and inclusive culture. We collaborate with and contribute to the open-source community. The Research Intern will be part of a passionate team building a deep learning framework for training and inference that can scale on very large Machine Learning (ML) models, leveraging custom AI accelerators, and the latest state-of-the-art deep learning techniques and algorithms. We use open source technologies and Github for our work and collaborate with the AI community at large. ResponsibilitiesResearch Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
