Description

A bench chemistry professional whose main responsibility is to perform routine analyses in the designated environmental laboratory. This may include logging in samples, preparing samples, performing analyses, and reporting results. The Senior Analyst is responsible for following all documented procedures, recording all laboratory notes, and elevating technical issues to the laboratory manager. The Senior Analyst works independently using routine, standard and non-routine methods

Essential Functions
  • Perform all job functions according to Alliance's Health and Safety and Quality Assurance guidelines as appropriate to the job function.
  • Ensure that all samples received by the laboratory are logged in according to the appropriate procedure including labeling, logging, and acknowledging.
  • Ensure instrumentation is running, troubleshoot issues, and make or coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Perform sample preparation, analysis and data reporting as requested on the required turnaround times.
  • Prepare reagents and standards for sample analysis.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and glassware.
  • Maintain inventory of standards and supplies; order replacements as needed.
  • Ensure all analysis is performed within the specifications of the appropriate analytical SOP.
  • Provide SOP updates and details for corrective actions as needed.
  • Report non-conformances to the QAM and Laboratory Manager.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or related field, experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general chemistry laboratory or 5 years of experience in an appropriate laboratory, Instrumental troubleshooting & maintenance.
  • Master's Degree in an applied science discipline can substitute for 2 years' experience.
  • 5 plus years of experience with GC and GCMS instruments running Volatile Organics and Semi-Volatile Organics by GCMS as well as Herbicides, Pesticides and PCBs by GC.

  • A strong desire for this experience to be in an Environmental Laboratory using EPA methods. This person should be experienced in performing instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office programs, including Work, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both with internal customers and external vendors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.
  • Professional behavior and appearance.
  • Ability to be organized and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, follow up on pending issues, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • General familiarity with laboratory safety, previous laboratory experience preferred.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory setting. Sitting/Standing and possible light lifting.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Sitting for extended periods and the use of hands to finger is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Duties frequently involve repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination. Testing priorities and timelines may serve as a source of emotional stress.

  • Utilize laboratory information management system (LIMS) functions, including generating work lists, obtaining and updating project status, and ensuring reported data is properly qualified.
  • Performs Level I & II review of data.
  • Develops method modifications for special testing requests.
  • Train other analyst(s) on routine and standard methods and procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, good manual dexterity for the use of laboratory equipment is needed. The employee is occasionally required to walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, and feel.

Occasional heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 30 lbs. of force may occasionally be required. While performing the duties of this job, good manual dexterity for the use of laboratory equipment is needed.

Use of applicable Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory.

*The pay range for this position is $25 - $30 depending on experience*
