Title: Senior Fisheries Biologist

Location: Washington and Oregon offices and/or California offices; remote work will be considered on a case-by-case basis

What's the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time Senior Fisheries Biologist for one of our offices in Washington, Oregon, and/or California. The position may require some travel to participate in client meetings, public meetings, stakeholder work groups, fieldwork, or site visits. The Senior Fisheries Biologist will have more than 10 years of experience leading the preparation of fisheries or aquatic habitat studies with a focus on salmonids, including leading field assessments and collecting and analyzing data. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience conducting regulatory and ecological analyses in support of Endangered Species Act and Essential Fish Habitat consultations; analyzing complex datasets; preparing technical reports; developing and reviewing documents, status reports, and deliverables; and completing quality control review of documents. The ideal candidate will also have a proven record of developing successful proposals and client relationships and helping solve complex resource management issues. We are interested in a candidate who is a quick learner, detail-oriented, and a committed team player who possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have a Master of Science degree or PhD and more than 10 years of experience in biology. Candidates with a Bachelor of Science degree and 10+ years of experience will also be considered. Skills must include:

  • Managing and participating in the collection of biological data in a variety of Pacific Northwest and/or California habitats, including freshwater, estuarine, marine, and/or terrestrial
  • Analyzing complex biological data and providing review and oversight for junior and mid-level staff
  • Managing projects, including overseeing project or field teams
  • Preparing written reports and results of technical studies
  • Developing and managing complex scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Interfacing with clients, tribes, regulatory agencies, other consultants, and the public

What Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Master's or PhD degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree (considered) in fish or wildlife biology, ecology, natural resources management, or related discipline
  • Experience in any of the following: Pacific salmon biology and ecology, riparian and stream habitat evaluations, macroalgae and other marine surveys; fisheries surveys or sampling; special status species surveys (e.g., forage fish, marine mammals, amphibians, marbled murrelet); fish physiological studies; Habitat Equivalency Analysis; conservation calculator analyses; acoustic impact analyses; hatchery monitoring and evaluation; habitat restoration design; acoustic telemetry; fish passage evaluations, salmon reintroduction
  • Experience in data management and analysis, including basic statistical analysis using standard software (e.g., Excel, R, JMP)
  • Proven record of developing successful proposals and client relationships and helping solve complex resource management issues
  • The desire to learn and apply what you learn to solve challenging problems

Salary and Other Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000 annually
  • Annual Bonus
  • Other potential bonus types: Billable Time Bonus, Spot Bonus, Milestone Anniversary Bonus, Receiving Professional License/Certification Bonus, Peer-reviewed Publication Bonus, Employee Referral Bonus.

Base Level Benefits for Regular Full-Time Positions:
