Job Description

Summary:

The Technical Writer on the Customer Support Team will support the Service Development Engineering team to develop and maintain the structure for all service documentation. This position will lead the conversion to an XML-based Content Management System. This position actively participates in the development process to ensure continuity between products, projects, and documentation. This position will work with Service Development Engineers to create and release content.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, author, update, and control document revisions for service work instructions for FDA regulated medical hardware devices and software

  • Work with internal teams to develop an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements

  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets regulatory standards and is appropriate for a global audience

  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities

  • Maintain and implement service documentation architecture and release Work Instructions, SOP's, BOM's, Templates, engineering change order system via change management system

  • Coordinates peer reviews, change authorization, and publication logistics

  • Support Service Development engineers and Service Product Development Leaders through all phases of the Product Development Cycle

Qualifications:

a. Required

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or communications, with experience in a specialized field such as engineering or computer science.

  • Experience with XML-based CMS.

  • Proven working experience in technical writing of software or hardware documentation.

  • Ability to explain complex information in a clear and concise manner, making it easily understandable in text and pictures.

  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation with attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Experience creating documentation for content to be translated into multiple languages.

  • Experience in developing documentation for software, assembly, or service.

  • Participate with product development and sustaining engineering project teams to ensure that documentation requirements are incorporated into new product designs.

  • Lead the development of service documentation including service guides, technical bulletins, etc.

  • Experience in image modification utilizing programs such as Microsoft Paint, Photoshop, etc.

b. Preferred or Desired

  • Experience with Content Management Systems such as Astoria, Vasont or SDL Knowledge Center.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, technical writing or technical discipline preferred, but Associate's degree plus two years in the field of communications (whether it be medical writing, marketing, academic research, etc.) may be considered in lieu of four-year degree.

Accuray pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Accuray Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
