Duties/Responsibilities*:

  • Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
  • Monitor boiler and all related equipment used in lumber drying and power production while also making sure all emissions out of the boiler are within legal limits and state and federal guidelines.
  • Coordinate tasks between powerhouse employees and between Collins and outside parties and emergency services when needed. Operator is required to maintain the operation of all the equipment up the standards of state and federal agencies for any environmental or regulatory items.
  • Coordinate all power transmission events with PGE real time control centers and report all emission exceedances with the District Air Board.
  • Create work orders for maintenance, electrical, or safety items that have been discovered.
  • Work with trainees to keep fuel mixes consistent for boiler operation. Adjust fuel mixtures in the event of wet or dirty fuel consumption. Be aware of composition of the fuel stockpile to report the proper order of fuel usage.
  • Interpret boiler water chemistry test results and determine which chemicals to adjust to achieve desired results.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance during scheduled shift is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Position Requirements: Must meet position requirements to be considered a candidate for this position.

  • Previous boiler operations experience preferred.
  • Must be able to identify critical powerhouse components and know how to shut the plant down in a quick but safe manner.
  • Understand all the systems related to steam, electrical, boiler water, service water, instrument air, fire protection system and its back up systems when power is out.
  • Ability to effectively relay information back and forth with Trainees.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable temperatures and weather conditions.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, a face shield, and a respirator.
