Job/Internship Description

KidsData.org, a program of PRB, is the most comprehensive and trusted source of data on child health and well-being in California. KidsData curates more than 1,000 indicators on the safety, health, education, and economic security of children and youth in every county, city, legislative district, and school district across the state.

The KidsData Team is seeking a paid, remote-only summer intern to support several technical and administrative activities under the KidsData project. Under the supervision of a PRB Senior Research Associate, the intern will do one or more of the following:

  • Support KidsData.org by processing, analyzing, and/or checking data on child health and well-being.
  • Support development of the monthly newsletter, KidsData News, and accompanying social media.
  • Support the KidsData website through backend work, Google Ads management, or other website support as needed.
  • Assist with updating the "Research and Links" sections of KidsData.org by searching the web for new, relevant articles on selected child well-being topics.

In their application, interns should note which of these technical tasks they are most interested in.

In addition to one or more technical tasks, the intern may provide administrative support to the KidsData leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills, especially writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and work with diverse personalities.
  • Strong interest in child health and well-being in California.
  • Interns interested in working on data science aspects of KidsData should have strong quantitative skills and prior experience with analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel and/or statistical programming languages (such as SAS, R, or Python).
  • California resident high school, undergraduate, or graduate student preferred.

Commitment to intern for 20 hours/week for eight weeks between June 1, 2024 and August 30, 2024 (start date is negotiable).
