Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Health Information Manager is responsible for the directing, coordinating and supervising health information management services, consistent with established policies, regulatory requirements and laws. As applicable, responsible for coordinating core aspects of credentialing, re-credentialing and privileging functions for medical and allied staff. Functions include ensuring compliance to regulatory, medical staff bylaws and hospital policies governing credentialing practices, and accurate credentialing files for medical and allied staff.

Responsibilities
* Providing day to day supervision of site specific medical record services and staff consistent with established policy and regulatory requirements, and statutes governing health information management practices.
* Assisting with credentialing.
* Directing department within the scope of the operating budget/business plan and maintains necessary controls to ensure compliance with budgeted expenses, resources and staff.
* Managing, supervising and proving staff in-services.
* Monitoring chart completion procedures, statistics, and clinical pertinence reviews with the provision of feedback to respective staff and interdisciplinary departments.
* Ensuring release of healthcare information complies with applicable statutes and regulations.
* Developing and implementing systems to assess, analyze, and improve health information processes and outcomes in a cost effective manner.
* Providing direction and leadership to hospital staff as necessary to carry out departmental and organizational goals for the provision of medical record services.
* Remaining current on issues, trends, and regulations which impact healthcare and hospital regulations.
* Reviewing transcription services to ensure quality and timeliness of information.
* Participating member of Medical Executive Committee, Facility Management Team, and Ad Hoc Committees.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of a program in health information administration, or other accredited program by the American Health Information Management association required.
  • Eligible for certification as RHIA Registered Health Information Administrator, or RHIT, Registered Health Information Technician preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical staff organization and credentialing activities.
  • 3 to 5 years' managerial/supervisory experience within a Health Information Management Department required.
  • Broad based knowledge of PC based software systems, and exposure to computerized clinical information management systems.
