About the Role

Under the direction of the Design Manager, and in partnership with peers, you will develop big ideas, print & pattern concepts and gear designs that achieve overall product strategy, and merchant objectives.

You will manage & lead the product development & design execution through collaboration with our product manager, overseas partners & vendors.

You will stay up to date on new aesthetic and social trends for baby, kids, and teens.

The category responsibilities for the Senior Designer include kids gear (backpacks, travel gear & accessories), food storage & occasionally nursery gear.

  • Owning proprietary print & pattern development for kids gear and accessories.
  • Owning the development of licensed and collaboration artwork for gear.
  • Leading the design development for new piece types and special construction innovations for gear.
  • Leading the design development for food storage and gear accessories.
  • Leading the design development & testing for new personalization (PZ) of gear categories

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop seasonal trends, themes, concepts, color, fabric, and styling and/or product form function and manufacturing processes.
  • Create designs that support merchant line plans, assortment of strategies, price points and overall creative direction, while maintaining the brand POV (point of view)
  • Create and deliver effective, cohesive product presentations to "sell" concepts to merchants.
  • Ensure consistent formats cross brands divisions.
  • Ensure product design spec package is complete, accurate and handed off to vendors on time.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure product execution according to design intent.
  • Develop and manage seasonal calendars and meet all deadlines.
  • Build with the team strong, balanced assortments that include good, better, best strategy and core, "must-have" fashion items.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership at the team and division level and initiate the opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Manage, coach, and develop peers.
  • Oversee freelancers as needed.
  • Develop SKU-level designs from conception through revisions to sample approval. Present to Head Designer for review & approval.

Criteria

  • Strong in print & pattern design, color palettes & trend, with a high aesthetic taste-level.
  • Expert in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Able to concept & design creatively within our different product categories - print & pattern, dimensional gear, and food storage.
  • Highly organized, motivated and with a sharp eye for detail
  • Deadline-driven and able to manage a calendar over multiple seasons.
  • Minimum 5-7 years product design experience with a knowledge of product development process for retail.
  • Degree in Design or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent personality and Vendors relationships skills; functions well with a team.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit.
  • This role requires being onsite in the San Francisco office

Physical Requirements:

  • Create and carry foam core boards and samples for presentations.
  • Ability to transport materials or equipment or lifting, moving, carrying objects up to 50 pounds on a limited basis.
  • Unpack boxes of samples when needed.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $92,000-$106,300. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
