The Position

Scientist 3, Spatial Profiling

Who We Are

The Department of Cell and Tissue Genomics within Genentech Research and Early Development is seeking a highly talented, creative, and motivated Scientist 3 to develop and apply new approaches for spatial transcriptomics, optical pooled screening, and computational microscopy. We are seeking candidates with both experimental and computational expertise. However, exceptionally qualified applicants who may not have extensive experience in one of these areas will still be given full consideration. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team to design, execute, and analyze experiments in order to dissect molecular and cellular circuits underlying disease. These efforts will span biological disciplines, including cancer, neuroscience, infectious disease, and regeneration.

Who You Are

  • Develop experimental and/or computational approaches for spatial transcriptomics and optical pooled screens

  • Collaborate with partner labs to apply these tools and approaches

  • You will design and lead independent projects

  • Communicate results through publications and oral presentations

  • You will contribute to lab organization and culture while helping to identify new research opportunities

Qualifications

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Genetics, or related field

  • Technical background, rigorous mindset and creativity in problem-solving

  • Passion for technology development and collaborative science

  • Excellent team member with interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership abilities

  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication

Preferred Expertise

  • Experience with molecular biology and genomics

  • AI/ML experience applied to microscopy or spatial transcriptomics

  • High-throughput microscopy and computational image analysis

  • Single-cell genomics and perturbation screening

  • Highly multiplexed imaging of nucleic acids or proteins in situ

  • Laboratory automation experience

  • Lineage tracing

  • Optical engineering, electrical instrumentation, or optogenetics

  • Background in cancer, neuroscience, infectious disease, or regeneration

Scientist 3

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $98,200 and $182,400 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
