Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller's primary responsibility will be to assist the Controller in the day-to-day senior level responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications: BS preferably in Accounting; five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

$120,000/yr. - $150,000/yr. -- Full-Time

Responsibilities:

Month-End (SBIR/IRC/STE)

  • Prepare month end spreadsheets
  • Review Corporate calendar for due dates
  • Post all subledgers (receivable invoices and receipts, payable invoices and payments, cash book, and material costing)
  • Prepare and post all journal entries
  • Prepare month end reports
  • Retrieve MOR reports
  • Prepare subledger to general ledger reconciliations
  • Ensure month end check lists are complete and signed
  • Prepare Cost Plus Fixed Fee billings for review and approval
  • Open next period, close current period when required
  • Support and assist (act as backup) the accounting staff in any of their tasks

Quarter End (SBIR/IRC/STE)

  • Prepare inventory count spreadsheets and provide to Material Manager
  • Complete quarterly schedules
  • Complete E&O analysis
  • Complete tax schedules
  • Complete tax schedules in Heico's Excel
  • Complete Quarterly schedules in Heico's Excel
  • Prepare Sales Tax Filings

Annually (SBIR/IRC/STE)

  • Complete Year-End Tax Schedules
  • Complete Year-End Tax Schedules in Heico's Excel
  • Complete any year-end Deloitte audit requests
  • Set up new fiscal year in Visual Accounting
  • Set up new month end folders for new fiscal year on-line in Month End directory
  • Set up new calendar year in VTA
  • Prepare Incurred Cost submissions to DCAA (SBIR/STE)
  • Prepare Year End Rate Adjustment Vouchers
  • Prepare schedules for Ernst & Young's R&D Tax Credit
  • Attend Controller's Conference in Florida

Monday Morning Report (MMR)

  • Backup to Controller when required

Payroll (SBIR/IRC/STE)

  • Assist and backup accounting staff when required

Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable/Cash Management (SBIR/IRC/STE)

  • Act as backup to Controller as needed

Business Filings (SBIR/IRC/STE)

  • Business license
  • Personal property
  • Environmental Fee
  • Lead Poisoning Fee
  • MA1000 Government Survey
  • Set up any new sales tax and business license accounts

Audit

  • Assist Controller in all audit inquiries including (but not limited to)
    • Heico Internal Audit
    • Deloitte & Touche
    • Ernst & Young
    • DCAA
    • State Board of Equalization
    • Employment Development Department
  • IRS

Requirements/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in Accounting and 5-10 years of hands on experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Accounting experience in a technology-based manufacturing environment is required.
  • Creative, critical thinker. Must be able to anticipate problems, and propose solutions in a timely manner
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
  • In addition, knowledge of Department of Defense contracts specifically Cost Plus Fixed Fee, the government billing system, Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE) a plus, knowledge of the FAR, and experience with DCAA/DCMA Audits and requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be effective in a team structure. Ability to work in a hands-on fast-paced company. Strong computer skills required, specifically in Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Government Cost Accounting Principles and GAAP.
