BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this maintenance position is to provide support and assistance in all areas of general maintenance and repair of the Camp's buildings, grounds, equipment and other facilities consistent with the mission and established policies and procedures of the Camp. This includes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs and the responsibility to recommend major repairs to the Camp Director for the buildings, property, and equipment of The Salvation Army. Perform set ups and take downs of furniture and other equipment for various campus activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance/Landscaping

  1. Maintain the Camp grounds by operating necessary grounds care equipment such as mower, tractor, chain saws, weed eater etc., in a safe and efficient manner.
  2. Work with Divisional Construction Manager on large projects.
  3. Lock and secure all equipment when not in use.
  4. Be aware and make necessary changes to hazards found on campground.
  5. Check all areas of Camp that may need repairs weekly. All aspects include: landscape, trail blazing, water lines - copper, PVC and galvanized, HVAC, electrical, framing, fencing, roofing, painting and staining.
  6. Maintain Camp propane fill station (training certificate required).
  7. Perform janitorial and general maintenance duties in building areas designated (sweep, scrub, wax floors, wash windows and screens, pressure wash, etc.).
  8. Dispose of trash and waste from Camp facilities and campground daily.
  9. Perform all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines, as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
  10. Maintain and re-certify all fire extinguishers each year to pass fire marshal inspection.
  11. Obtain estimate bids and schedule outside contractors to fix issues outside of experience: window glaziers, appliance repairs and coffee machine repairs, etc.
  12. Maintain/repair all vehicles including: brakes, rotors, charging system, CV axles, etc.
  13. Maintain vehicle logs to track repairs and service done to each vehicle.
  14. Set up, maintain and shutdown pool at appropriate times.
  15. General maintenance job assignments given by the Camp Director such as: electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, general clean up, mowing, and weed eating.
  16. Keep Camp maintenance shop area clean.
  17. Set up and tear down meeting spaces depending on guest group needs.
  18. Keep inventory of all tools and supplies. Notify Camp Director when something is needed or missing.
  19. Wear and use appropriate safety equipment for the job (ex. safety glasses when working with carpentry, as well as safety glasses, ear plugs & chaps when using weed eaters).
  20. Be prompt and conscientious at every job assignment and always be aware of safety factors involved in the task at hand.
  21. Clean work area after each workday and after the job is completed.
  22. Any other duties as assigned.

Group Hosting

  1. ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE and let the guest staff know where you can be found.
  2. Check with the guest staff periodically to see if they need any assistance with anything.
  3. Fix and repair problems in as timely a manner as possible.
  4. Let the guest staff know when a problem has been repaired or what action is being taken to address the problem.
  5. Monitor the guest group's schedule for any special request items.
  6. Check voice mail on phone and deliver any messages received for the guest group.
  7. 11:00 pm make rounds and turn off lights in areas not being used. If still in use, remind the group of the "last one out" policy.
  8. Build a fire at the campfire pit, if requested.
  9. Locate sports equipment.
  10. Prepare and return TSA statistic forms in a timely fashion to the Office Manager.
  11. Be flexible and accommodating. Our ministry and reputation is based on providing consistent quality service. Do whatever you can, within reason, to make sure the guest group is taken care of.

Physical Requirements and Work Experience:

  1. The position requires frequent lifting of 50 pounds or more. This position requires good mobility with the ability to climb, crawl, bend and have good dexterity in regard to grasping, reaching, and handling.
  2. The job is primarily performed outside in the elements, regardless of weather.
  3. The ability to operate indoor cleaning machines (i.e., vacuum, buffer) and grounds keeping equipment (i.e., lawn mower, edger, blower).
  4. Must have experience in several of the following areas:
  5. Ground keeping.
  6. Utility systems (water, sewer, electrical, HVAC).
  7. Painting, carpentry, drywall repair, electrical work, plumbing fixtures, repair & appliance installation.
  8. Operation of chain saws and wood splitting equipment; heavy equipment
