Position Summary:
Student Center & Event Services provides the campus community and its guests with a variety of services and venues for social, recreational, cultural, and educational pursuits and is the primary resource for individuals/groups interested in holding a meeting, seminar, summer conference program or other event at UC Irvine.
Under the direction and supervision of the Custodial Services Manager the Lead Custodian performs various skilled and semi-skilled custodial duties at the UCI Student Center and its satellite facilities. Operates a large variety of cleaning equipment and ensures all areas are clean in accordance to department and university standards. Assists with setting up and dismantling of furniture and special equipment. Responsible for the security of area and possession of master keys. Serve as work leader for custodians and senior custodians, and will direct custodial employees in the absence of the Environmental Services Manager.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $20.26 - $26.71 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $20.26 - $26.71 (Hourly Rate).

Required:
  • Ability to lead small work groups. Ability to communicate basic work instructions from supervisor to custodial employees.
  • Previous general custodial experience.
  • Experience in the following categories: Restroom Care Carpet Care Hard Floor Care
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Experience working a night shift.
  • General knowledge of safety precautions in the use of equipment, chemicals, lifting, customer traffic, etc.
  • Understand the emergency preparation and response plan.
  • Cleaning Skills: able to sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, polish, perform overhead cleaning, wash walls & amp; windows, clean bathrooms and kitchens, and clean other building surfaces.
  • Ability to use all cleaning equipment: floor machines for bonneting, buffing, and polishing, extractors, upholstery machines, tank vacuums, upright and backpack vacuums, wide area vacuums, mops and brooms, extension poles, short ladders, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, ability to select appropriate chemical for the job, ability to mix and dilute chemicals appropriately, and handle chemicals safely.
  • Ability to read and understand labels or instructions for cleaning solutions utilized in housekeeping.
  • Ability to read, write, give and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to prepare repair orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, and supervisor.
  • Ability to work well with the public. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and implement security measures.
  • Ability to interpret and follow setup diagrams for conference rooms and lounges.
Preferred:
  • Desired: Experience in specialist janitorial operations.
Special Conditions Required:
  • Must accept a 5 day workweek that may include weekends, and include occasional overtime assignments.
  • Schedule and shift assignment determined by management.
  • Workweek and times are subject to change.
