Job Description

Work Hours

  • Availability between 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Mountain Time, Monday to Friday except holidays, is required

Job Description

  • Review National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) packages from project proponents and provide recommendations to BIA regions
  • Prepare initial draft NEPA documents and packages for Direct Service Tribes, ensuring adherence to environmental laws
  • Develop process guides and other materials to assist in project review and decision-making processes
  • Collaborate with BIA regions for the finalization and decision-making of NEPA documents and package
  • Ensure all actions comply with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 112 and Section 106 regulations
  • Once already prepared NEPA packages that are submitted by project proponents for BIA decision are reviewed, write recommendations to the Regions, and prepare associated draft documents to the respective Region to support their review and decision-making
  • Write original draft NEPA documents and packages on behalf of BIA for Direct Service Tribes. These draft documents and packages would be submitted to the respective Region for their finalization and subsequent decision making.
  • Prepare process guides or other technical assistance products

Remote Work and Travel

  • Eligible for remote work with occasional travel, estimated to be two-three trips per quarter, each lasting three-four business days
  • Familiarity with fieldwork in remote Alaska beneficial for those leading travel
  • The amount of travel cannot be determined at this time, although it is unlikely to be more than two to three trips per quarter
  • It is highly dependent on the number of requests for assistance we get from Direct Service Tribes
