ROLE

Under general direction, position is responsible for planning, direction, coordination, implementation and administration of recycling programs for the Region through a comprehensive approach involving regular contact with key commercial customers and local jurisdiction, education, community-wide services, and completing waste auditing services. Oversees recycling services and related operations of the Region.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Manages and updates current contracts from key Commercial customers for recycling in franchised areas, secures new Commercial customers in both franchised and unregulated markets, and keeps records of recycling operations and submits reports as directed.
  • Prepares or assists in preparing related budgets and plans for equipment and staffing.
  • Assists Regional Manager in planning operations. May fill in for Regional Manager in public contacts, community activities, and Company activities.
  • Manages confidential commercial customer's proprietary financial data; including profitability of revenues, costs of labor and services to provide diversion strategies and outline customer's areas for opportunity.
  • Assists the Director of Regulatory Compliance as appropriate by reviewing pending legislation in order to recommend changes which are in the best interests of the community and the Company.
  • Analyzes audit reports on contamination and diversion issues and provides management with a recommendation for improving diversion rates and or process to meet legal compliance with contracts, city, and state laws.
  • Researches, develops, and implements new residential and commercial recycling programs, in conjunction with the Operations staff and improves penetration of existing services (toters, compactors, sweepers, drop box).
  • Prepares and delivers speeches and presentations within the community and for customers. Attends and becomes active in local community organizations (Rotary, Chambers) as a representative of the company.
  • Develops literature and brochures promoting the company and its services, surveys routes to verify rates, services and efficiencies (size, frequency, quantity), and educates existing and new customers on various recycle and waste issues (contaminants, AB939, HHW).
  • Coordinates recycling programs with local jurisdictions.
  • May maintain and order certificates of insurance as needed, create and maintain a file system for customer information and complete waste audits for customers.
  • May manage, support and expand local buy-back centers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

  • Three years of related experience.
  • Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area.
  • Current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
