Job Summary
Incumbents are technical experts and in charge of a complex and or critical laboratory function or process. For example, incumbents are in charge of radiology film processing laboratories which includes responsibility for maintaining even work flow, adjusting schedules to meet priorities; maintaining and making minor repairs to equipment; maintaining stock levels and re-ordering of supplies; based on technical knowledge recommending best vendor source; performing highly specialized procedures such as loading and unloading vacuum, multi-leaf, tomographic cassettes and cine-cameras; and may teach student technologists film processing techniques.
Under the direction of the Ward 86 Practice Manager, the incumbent will work in a primary care setting. Under the direction of medical personnel, the Hospital Assistant provides general assistance such as performing intake, rooming, and undertaking post medical appointment duties for primary care and specialty care sessions.
The job functions include but are not limited to: conducting patient vitalization; performing various health screenings; obtaining patient demographic information; gathering patient health maintenance data; assisting with patient flow during clinic hours; directing patients to exam rooms; maintaining exam rooms on a daily basis; checking equipment to insure proper functioning; preparing exam rooms between patients and between clinics; performing venipuncture and other specimen collections; administering vaccinations; conducting inventory check; initiating process for ordering clinic supplies as assigned; and maintaining appropriate logs as per schedule. In addition, the incumbent will conduct patient and specimen transport between areas on ZSFG Campus as needed.

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at UCSF is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research and education. With its home-base located at ZSFG, the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care for over ten years.
