The Jail-Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) program, a California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) satellite program, operates as a 6-bed adult unit at the Mendocino County Jail. Our patients have been found Incompetent to Stand Trial due to ongoing mental illness or disability (e.g., serious mental illness such as a psychotic or major mood disorder, or cognitive disability). Our patients receive psychiatric and mental health services aimed at restoring their competency to stand trial so that they may proceed with pending criminal charges in the court system and move forward in their lives in a healthier place.

NaphCare has a partnership with NetCE that provides CEU/CME for our staff. NetCE uses a rigorous peer review process to ensure that all activities and content are up-to-date. This service streamlines continuing education for all NaphCare Employees to meet state specific requirements for maintaining

Position Requirements/ Preferred Experience:

• Masters prepared candidate with active, unrestricted licensure as a mental health clinician in California
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), psychologist (PsyD/ PhD)
• At least 1 year of experience preferred
• Experience working with the seriously mentally ill highly preferred
• Experience in a correctional or secure environment preferred, but not required
  

Position Description:

• Serve as a contributing member of the multidisciplinary treatment team for JBCT patients in roles as clinician, treatment plan coordinator, case manager, and discharge planner
• Provide individual (and when feasible, group) treatment that targets each patient's clinical and educational barriers to attaining competency to stand trial (e.g., 1 to 4 sessions per week)
• Perform and document treatment plans, treatment team review notes, discharge summaries, and progress notes
  Provide individual and group therapeutic and psychoeducational services targeting competency restoration to JBCT patients
• Coordinate with health and correctional staff regarding patients' mental health care
• Participate in educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients, security personnel, and healthcare staff
• Demonstrate knowledge of DSM-V-TR criteria and mental health practice standards
• Reports to and receives consultation (as needed or requested) from the JBCT Program Director
