Job Description
The Senior Estimator is a key player in preparing detailed cost estimates for new construction projects, covering both competitive bids and negotiated work. Responsibilities include quantity take-offs, database management, coordinating bid documents with subcontractors, and researching project data and suppliers. A strong foundation in construction costs is essential, enabling the Senior Estimator to contribute vital support to the preconstruction team's overall activities. This role is crucial in shaping the financial success of projects through meticulous estimating and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Review construction documents for both negotiated and bid projects to determine the scope of work.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors to enhance collaboration.
  • Contribute to design meetings, providing valuable feedback to optimize project cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and create comprehensive bid packages.
  • Collaborate on value-engineering initiatives to align projects with owner budgets.
  • Maintain and update subcontractor lists, ensuring accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide constructive feedback on bid data consolidation.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in construction drawings, costs, and principles.
  • Experienced in industry-specific software like WinEst, OST, Revit, Excel, and Building Connected.
  • Quick adaptability to new software tools, showcasing a strong aptitude for technological advancements.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating processes, including negotiated bids, hard bids, and Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP).
  • Leadership proficiency in constructability reviews and hands-on experience in design-build projects.
  • In-depth understanding of insurance, bonds, contingencies, mark-ups, and risk management tools.

Leadership and Communications Skills:

  • Effective leadership and mentoring abilities, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficient in goal definition, audience understanding, and productive meeting management.
  • Advanced customer focus, establishing positive relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Strategic communication skills, delivering impactful messages clearly and concisely.
  • Strategic decision-making and problem-solving skills, contributing to the success of the estimating process.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a continuous learning mindset.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, or engineering (preferred).
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of diverse construction estimating experience.
  • Hands-on experience in Project Management, demonstrating a robust understanding of construction operations.
  • We will consider candidates with equivalent combinations of education and industry experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Performance of the required duties will require the physical ability to sit for long periods of time at a desk, generally up to 7 hours per day, and occasionally standing and walking. The repetitive motion using hands with constant keyboarding and physical use of vision to read computer monitors and paper documents. Regularly required to use hands to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine). Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, and lift up to 15 pounds. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate to loud.

The range of base pay is $160,000 - $193,500. Actual pay is based on individual skill level and experience.
