Job Description

Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Product Approval Manager, the Regulatory Compliance Engineer is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Flammability and Durability testing labs, while developing testing protocols that ensure Tempur Sealy products meet or exceed industry standards. This position is responsible for testing products from all Tempur Sealy locations to ensure products are compliant with both state and Federal test standards. The position oversees data acquisition systems, lab accreditation, and product certification. In addition, the position is responsible for ensuring internal testing protocols match industry and Federal test requirements. Lastly, the position provides support to Tempur Sealy product development and commercialization efforts.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Results Area:

  • Direct reporting responsibility for Flammability and Durability Lab Technicians
  • Schedules and manages workflow for the Lab Technicians in associated labs
  • Develops and maintains appropriate database processes and documentation to efficiently manage the testing laboratory records and procedures
  • Coordinates and manages ISO-17025 audits
  • Schedules and documents external calibrations of test equipment
  • Ensures all testing SOPs meet regulatory and industry requirements
  • Initiates build and test requests to production facilities. Receives and inventories test samples in preparation for testing
  • Maintain systems records and facilitates sample testing
  • Provide training to all operations and other effected functions in how to maintain process compliance, assure material compliance, and practice appropriate sampling procedures related to regulatory compliance with all applicable laws
  • Establish random audit process to ensure compliance of materials to specification
  • Develop appropriate testing methods and procedures that define the critical raw material physical properties that determine product performance resulting in meaningful specifications
  • Participates / Witnesses third-party lab testing of Tempur Sealy products to ensure proper test protocols are met, and products are compliant

  • Internal Partners: Sourcing, Engineering, Finance, Manufacturing, Marketing, Legal
  • External Partners: Suppliers of bedding components, engineering consultancies, equipment manufacturers, third party test labs

Qualifications:

  • BS Engineering or Science, or an Associate's Degree with strong experience in a material testing or quality assurance laboratory environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical or testing environment
  • Requires confidence working with sophisticated instrumentation and computer controls
  • Attention to and careful maintenance of testing records is required. Experience in an ISO or A2LA environment is a plus
  • Decision-making, communication, technical competence, records management, database management

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Fast-paced corporate office environment. Some stress may occur. Regular travel is not expected in this position; however, travel around scheduled projects such as program rollouts may be necessary.
