Clinical Supervisor

Position will be housed out of the Carson Outpatient Facility.

This position is responsible for providing supervision and guidance to the social work staff. Assist in developing unit goals, objectives and standards of performance, as well as developing, coordinating and implementing clinical and program activities. The Clinical Supervisor ensures the social work staff meets compliance with legal and regulatory compliance and standards which promote optimum health care delivery. The Clinical Supervisor also coordinates performance improvement activities and addresses deficiencies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master's Degree in Social Work required

Credentials: Licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required

Experience: Minimum two (2) years as a Lead Social Worker or its equivalency

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON:

  • Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training, and annually thereafter.
  • Must complete all required mandatory inservices annually
  • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray tri-annually thereafter.
  • Must be certified in Handle With Care training within the first three (3) months of hire and annually thereafter.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Ability to perform skills of an administrative nature.
  • Provide Clinical Supervision to clinical services staff.
  • Ability to train staff on case management, clinical/diagnostic, legal, and ethical issues effecting the clinical services department and hospital.
  • Possess excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of clinical, administrative, professional and non-professional staff.
  • Perform assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations.
  • Work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
  • Make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles.
  • Comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion.
  • Adaptable to varying workloads an work assignments on a constant basis.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal skills.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License in order to drive hospital vehicles or on hospital business. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Social Workers

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Clinical Director and Assistant Clinical Director

PRIMARY CRITERIA/RESPONSBILITIES - Supervision:

  1. Provides supervision (as described by the Board of Behavioral Sciences) to social work staff.
  2. Assists with administrative functions of the Clinical Services Department.
  3. Ensures that unit programming is followed.
  4. Assists in orientation and training for new Lead Clinical Social Workers, Clinical Social Workers and Trainees.
  5. Assists in supervising and evaluating performance of social work staff.
  6. Attends administrative meetings when requested.
  7. Attends unit staff meetings, bi-weekly supervision and bi-monthly clinical services meetings.
  8. Demonstrates good managerial judgment by conducting all aspects of supervision in a fair, firm, consistent and objective manner.
  9. Assists in implementation of policy changes to reflect current standards of practice.
  10. Demonstrates awareness of legal and ethical aspects of care.
  11. Demonstrates awareness of case management and community resources.
  12. Prepares necessary reports and information to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies as requested.
  13. Encourages open communication and verbalization of opinions in an attempt to identify and resolve problems.
  14. Participates in hospital in-service education programs to integrate social work with other hospital departments.

PRIMARY CRITERIA/RESPONSBILITIES - Clinical Care:

  1. Provides and/or assigns psychosocial assessments within regulatory timeframe.
  2. Provides and/or assigns individual therapy when appropriate; leads and/or assigns groups.
  3. Provides and/or assigns case management to patients.
  4. Provides social work consultation to physicians, nurses, other hospital staff members, patients, and patient's relatives.
  5. Coordinates with community agencies upon requests and in coordination with assigned social worker.
  6. Attend appropriate meetings, workshops, and conferences to maintain social work skills and keep informed of community resources available.
  7. Provides and/or oversees discharge planning services and arrange for follow up care of patients through external services.
  8. Coordinate treatment rounds and chart audits for compliance.
  9. Ensures the coordination of the social services treatment plans are completed within policy timeframes.
  10. Assesses, reviews and reports safety concerns to supervisor, and any issues per protocol.
  11. Ensures the completion of clinical paperwork and clerical duties on assigned patients by social workers.
  12. Respond to all requests for assistance within 24 hours.
  13. Ensures patients are consistently referred to appropriate community agencies.
  14. Demonstrates ability to conduct and/or supervise family and community interventions are completed appropriately.
  15. Supports social workers in assisting patients and families in understanding, accepting and following medical recommendations.
  16. Consistently demonstrates appropriate contact with referral sources and outpatient providers.
  17. Completes and/or ensures that child abuse, dependent adult abuse, Tarasoff, domestic violence reports are done per Del Amo Hospital policy.
  18. Regularly foresees potential problem situations and intervenes to effect positive impact. Demonstrates a proactive attitude; demonstrates a consistently well-organized approach to all activities.
  19. Assumes and/or performs additional duties as requested and makes sound decisions within the range of expectation for the job.
