POSITION SUMMARY

The Batcher will be responsible for food safety and food quality, including CQP and CCP monitoring. This individual will ensure batches are made in accordance with Company's standard operating procedures (SOP's), good manufacturing practices (GMP's) and food safety policies and procedures. They are responsible for accurately weighing or measuring all ingredients per formulation that are added on the batch deck and accurately recording ingredients used in each batch on the batch sheet. This role reports to the Quality Manager and is based out of our Ontario, California location.


Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Read and follow blending guidelines as set forth on a formula sheet to adhere to company and customer specifications
  • Match color and flavor and other quality attributes of juice to control standard, weigh and pump ingredients for batch, open drums and containers for blending in batch
  • Perform quality checks before releasing batch for production such as brix, acid, pH, sensory and color and adjust batches to meet specifications
  • Use touch-screen computer to fill batch tanks with bulk ingredients
  • Use computers to research inventory needs and make batch corrections
  • Use hand held scanners to batch formulas
  • Responsible for resolving all errors related to batches
  • Perform sanitation of tanks and rooms, move empty drums/totes/bins for disposal or storage
  • Must be able to follow the batching schedule and adjust accordingly to "add ons"
  • Use the cook deck inventory report, locate and stage all required ingredients at the designated lower deck in advance of the batching process
  • Determine which ingredients will be pumped up, pulled from cut tanks or added directly to the batch tanks from the lower deck platform
  • Follow proper silo rotation always, unless directed otherwise
  • Complete silo hook ups in advance of the batching process and pull silo samples for testing
  • Accurately weigh or measure all ingredients to be pumped
  • Inspect and sample all dump back prior to use
  • Use all dump back as scheduled, per the usage instructions
  • Perform mathematical conversions of volume to weight and weight to volume as required
  • Determine any blending requirements and execute the blend plan
  • Adhere to the organic protocol when batching organic products
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely, accurate, complete and legible manner including lot numbers used; paper work is required for each formula work order
  • Communicate any ingredient availability or ingredient quality issues immediately to the Processing Supervisor
  • Demonstrate proper operation of a forklift, following all safety rules.
  • Maintain clean work area, including tanks, floor, pumps, hoses, utensils and tools following all Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Maintain a clean and organized cooler and dry ingredient storage area, with no open or soiled containers
  • Adhere to all food safety policies and procedures including but not limited to prevention of cross contamination and product adulteration
  • Accountable for food safety, food quality and regulatory requirements for their position
  • Encouraged to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues
  • Adopt and maintain all SQF requirements for their position
  • Empowerment to work with supervision to resolve food safety and food quality issues within their scope of work
  • This role will be required to taste test product as needed, up to a couple ounces per test.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Forklift certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months manufacturing experience
  • Must be proficient in mathematics

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

FREQUENT: Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in area of responsibility. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.
