The Manufacturing Engineer - Structures, is responsible for the technical development, oversight and improvement of manufacturing processes within the area of responsibility. Plans and presents engineering program and product design reviews for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Develops and requests design and specification change releases. Assesses and communicates impact of engineering initiatives to functional groups. This role is classified as Exempt for FLSA purposes and reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Director.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains technical work instructions for the manufacturing of aerospace composite and metallic structures.
  • Provides technical support to the Quality and Operations groups to meet the site Safety, Cost, Quality and Delivery targets.
  • Supports the Purchasing and Sales functions as part of the quoting processes.
  • Determines operational standard hours.
  • Leads root cause analysis activities and implements corrective actions to prevent and resolve manufacturing defects.
  • Implements SPC charting in key manufacturing processes.
  • Assesses component design requirements/blueprint definition and incorporates them in the manufacturing work instructions.
  • Provides training and guidance to operators and other engineers as needed.
  • Leads manufacturing area productivity and cost reduction improvements.
  • Develops and implements manufacturing processes that meet or exceed the capability requirements as part of the new product introduction activities.
  • Assesses and initiates component repairs.

The individual is required to be a supportive member of Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) and Quality System policies to provide a safe work place and eliminate conditions and behaviors which may cause work related illnesses and/or injuries while delivering quality product and services on time.

Pay Range: $90,000 to $120,000 per year

Position Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering, or HS Diploma/GED with relevant aerospace manufacturing/repair experience. 5+ years of technical experience in manufacturing or repair of aerospace components.

Preferred experience:

  • Familiar with building and maintaining Bill of Materials for complex aerospace structures.
  • Experience in the assembly of large metallic structures within the aerospace industry.
  • Experience in machining of large metallic structures.
  • Experience with Boeing Aerospace Company (BAC) manufacturing specifications.
  • Familiar with engineering drawing and interpretation of GD&T.
  • Experience with CAD modelling (CATIA, Solidworks and NX).
  • Experience designing manufacturing tooling for the production of complex aerospace metallic structures.
  • Candidate must possess Change Management skills and ability to drive change throughout the organization. Demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Knowledge of process change implementation.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to think strategically and work through tactical implementation of major engineering change initiatives. Analytical and results oriented. Ability to multi-task and detail oriented.
  • Knowledge and experience with Six Sigma, ACE, Lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Team player and motivator skills required to establish and sustain a lean culture.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Solidworks & Access) required.
