Biomedical Technician I

About the position:

The Biomedical Technician assembles, installs, and inspects new biomedical equipment. Assembles equipment and conducts pre-operational tests to verify compliance with medical and technical standards, specifications, contracts, and regulatory guidance. Installs or coordinates the installation of medical equipment that requires interface with other devices or with the facility. Resolves installation and associated maintenance support problems. Performs formal acceptance testing of complex medical equipment and installations such as diagnostic radiology systems and physiological monitoring systems. Performs pre-procurement surveys and provides technical advice regarding the purchase of new biomedical equipment systems and the required facility interface requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provides technical expertise, recommendations, and written solutions to the Business Development Team to include but not limited to the following:

  • Initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, general maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical general support equipment (medical package tools and equipment, i.e., generators, environmental control units, etc.).
  • Follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations, and unit direction.
  • Requires a basic understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, planning work schedules, selecting tools and test instruments, and understanding compliance with maintenance instructions and technical directives.
  • Work may be reviewed by the Supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices.
  • Applies basic technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining malfunctions and applies skill in restoring equipment operations.
  • Work under immediate supervision and receives technical guidance, as required, from a higher-level technician or the supervisor. Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Requires the ability to interact professionally with co-workers and all levels of management.

  • Must obtain annual influenza inoculations; proof of vaccination is required.
  • Up to 25 percent annual travel.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Field experience using medical materiel Information Systems (MMIS).
  • Computers, diagnostic equipment, craft tools, personal protective equipment as required.
  • Application of technical knowledge of electronic principles in determining malfunctions and skill application in restoring equipment systems and operations.
  • Applicable operations experience.
  • Prior experience in the electronics maintenance field
  • Prior experience in repair.
  • Basic understanding of processes, as well as the Microsoft Office Professional suite of software (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education and Experience:

  • Education High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of field experience in performing initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, general maintenance, and repair of medical equipment within Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidance.
  • Must have graduated from The DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course or an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
