Pay Range

$153,450 - $197,028 Anually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity


Job Description

We have an opening for a Group Lead in Analytical Services and Instrumentation (AS&I) Division to provide technical expertise and leadership to manage the External Dosimetry Laboratory. This position will supervise and direct the professional and technical staff. You will anticipate future needs and provide guidance to ensure the External Dosimetry Program at LLNL remains compliant with LLNL policies, DOE Orders, and federal regulations. This position is in the AS&I Division within Technical Services Department of the Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) Directorate.

You will

  • Provide technical leadership, direction, training, and guidance to External Dosimetry staff to ensure high-quality and cost-effective dosimetry services that are compliant with DOE Laboratory Accreditation Program (DOE LAP) requirements.
  • Perform project management activities including work and resource planning, safe conduct of work, verification and validation of dosimetry results, evaluation of program performance and customers' satisfaction.
  • Perform personnel management activities including supervising professional and technical staff, conducting performance review and salary management, recruiting and hiring new staff.
  • Represent the External Dosimetry Program as the technical contact and organization spokesperson during audits, inspections, and site verifications by internal and external agencies.
  • Develop, evaluate, approve, and maintain procedures and technical basis documents for the DOE LAP Accredited External Dosimetry Program in collaboration with the Radiation Protection Functional Area to ensure quality, efficiency, productivity, and compliance.
  • Solve complex technical problems with frequent independent decision-making, interacting with customers and stakeholders at all levels to provide resolution or continuous improvement of operations.
  • Represent AS&I in technical and leadership forums and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in health physics or other relevant technical area, or equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge with significant experience with External Dosimetry Programs.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of dosimetry-related standards and regulations, like ANSI/HPS N13.11-2009, Personnel Dosimetry Performance Criteria for Testing, ANSI/HPS N13.32-2008, Performance Testing of Extremity Dosimeters.
  • Advanced management and organizational skills with detail orientation necessary to handle multiple highly complex tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, tight and changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions while providing high-level customer service.
  • Advanced leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to handle complex, sensitive, and confidential issues with tact, discretion, and mature judgment, and demonstrated advanced communication skills to effectively present, explain, advise, and communicate highly complex technical information to a wide range of personnel internal and external to LLNL.
  • Advanced decision-making and problem-solving skills to evaluate, negotiate, develop, and implement actions and solutions for complex problems.
  • Experience with Panasonic, Harshaw, and/or CR-39 dosimetry systems including dosimeters, processing equipment, and dose calculation algorithms.
  • Experience with the DOELAP radio bioassay accreditation process and /or NVLAP dosimetry accreditation processes.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree in health physics or a closely related field.
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting software packages.
