Job Description
Risk & Compliance Client Service Risk Specialist, SHaPE & Life Sciences
Who You'll Work With
You will be part of McKinsey's Client Service Risk (CSR) function. Client Service Risk's mission is to enable McKinsey's client impact and innovation, while managing risks to our clients, people and firm.
You will be based in one of our US or Canada offices and you will be a core member of the North America Client Service Risk team. In this role you will report up to the Director of North America through colleagues responsible for leading the Life Sciences and SHaPE risk teams in the United States and Canada. You will work closely with CSR colleagues in both risk advisory and strategy & operations roles and with client service partners and colleagues in other professional functions, including Legal, Compliance and Communications.
What You'll Do
You will be supporting Life Sciences and SHaPE and be part of the team charged with providing strategic, integrative advice to client service teams and Sector leaders in the Life Sciences and SHaPE sectors, which together comprise clients in the pharmaceuticals, MedTech, healthcare, social sector, and public sector spaces.
You will identify, analyze, and resolve client service risk questions (e.g., questions involving new clients and moderate-risk engagements) and advise client-serving teams on risk mitigation steps. You will also support senior risk colleagues on risk reviews of higher-risk and more complex cases and will help prepare briefings for the Client Service Risk Committee (CSRC). You will work closely with risk colleagues to develop and improve risk practices and protocols, and support efforts to increase awareness and training within the sectors. You will also be responsible for timely and accurate record-keeping.
You will combine a risk-ownership mindset and excellent problem-solving skills and judgment, to manage increasingly complex issues and to develop into a trusted counselor to client service partners. You will need to have strong attention to detail, agility, well-developed critical thinking skills and a collaborative working style.

  • 4+ years' professional experience in risk management, communications, crisis response, or adjacent professional services (including risk advisory, public relations, legal, compliance, public affairs, or consulting)
  • Relevant experience in at least one of several key subject areas (e.g., public sector, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, regulatory risk, communications, reputational risk, conflicts of interest)
  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated entrepreneurial drive
  • Experience balancing and executing multiple priorities at once; ability to prioritize
  • Strong personal presence and credibility; excellent listening skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to craft clear, concise, and pragmatic work product catered to specific internal audiences
  • A collaborative and cooperative mindset toward working with various stakeholders, including colleagues in CSR, other professional functions, and client-facing teams
