What We Do

First American / Sequoia is seeking candidates for a leadership role as a DevOps Manager. An ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, a product mindset and takes a hands-on approach for driving DevOps best-practices. You will manage a DevOps team in the design, construction, and management of AWS cloud-native solutions and CI/CD automation workflows/tools to deliver and operate our core, mission-critical software platforms using modern tools, techniques, and cloud-native services.

What You'll Do

  • Technical Leadership: Provide vision and technical leadership to guide a team of DevOps engineers in designing, delivering, and supporting application architectures and CI/CD pipelines, including security, monitoring, and alerting. This also includes work breakdown, prioritization, and backlog management.

  • Collaborate: Partner with engineering teams to improve the reliability, scalability, and operability of solutions being developed through DevOps best practices. You will also collaborate with Solution/Infrastructure/Data Architects and DevSecOps teams to implement security and compliance policies across our cloud infrastructure. Nurture a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement across the team.

  • Implement: Partner with SREs in the implementation of monitoring and observability tools to evaluate health, usage, and availability of services running in the cloud. The role is also responsible for implementing zero downtime and blue-green deployment strategies.

  • Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to less senior DevOps engineers. Mentor, coach, train, and support your team and others in their careers and personal growth.

  • Best Practices: Responsible for establishing and optimizing our DevOps practices, including training, establishing methodologies, and creating /maintaining practice artifacts. Evangelize and drive adoption of best practices in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD to protect the integrity and availability of our data and applications.

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years in the cloud and DevOps field, with 2+ as a people/team leader

  • Proven track record for delivering fit for purpose technical solutions balancing complexity, performance, and maintainability.

  • Leadership skills to mobilize and motivate a high-functioning engineering team.

  • Passion, perspective, and empathy for unblocking software engineering teams working to achieve their goals

  • A balanced approach between Software Engineering principles and modern Infrastructure Operations

  • Passion to lead from the front by keeping in touch with emergent technologies to keep our platform and services in alignment with industry trends.

  • Collaborate with solution architects, product teams, SRE, operations, and leadership to identify and prioritize technology initiatives and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Automation orchestration tooling such as GitHub Actions and GitHub Enterprise

  • Strong hands-on experience writing Terraform code including the creation and use of Terraform modules.

  • Solid experience managing Docker containers and container orchestration platforms such as ECS and EKS, including expertise in deploying, scaling, and managing containerized applications at scale.

  • Strong knowledge in key DevOps practices, including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), observability, serverless computing, containerization, and scripting languages like Python.

  • The candidate should have leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor other DevOps engineers, as well as collaborate effectively with other teams and stakeholders.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong relationship, collaborative, and organization skills.

Ideally you will also have experience with:

  • AWS infrastructure and cloud native services including Lambda, SQS, VPCs, TGWs, etc.

  • Knowledge of networking core concepts (VPCs, subnets, DNS, load balancers, firewalls etc.)

  • Experience working with monitoring and log aggregating frameworks and tools such as Kafka, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Search, Open Telemetry and Kibana.

  • Python, bash, SQL, node.js

BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field

Pay Range: $182,000 - $208,000 annually.

This hiring range is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the salary range of possible compensation at the time of the posting, and is subject to change. The actual compensation offered will be determined by various factors, which may include a candidate's education, training, experience, and geographic location.
