Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Risk Advisory and Insurance Services, the Enterprise Risk Analyst operates autonomously and works with a team of professionals. The Enterprise Risk Analyst ensures effective management of the risks associated with UCSF's work with third-party entities, including anticipating, identifying, analyzing, and mitigating common contract-related risks; providing guidance and proactive education to stakeholders across UCSF on matters associated with intellectual property law, academic research administration, contracts and grants, information security and regulatory compliance; coordinates contractual risk-related contracts that require cross-discipline expertise; works with the Deputy Director on escalated contracts and those with organization or system-wide implications; and collaborates with other Risk Advisory and Insurance Services team members to develop and implement enterprise risk management best practices.

The Enterprise Risk Analyst regularly works on complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The Enterprise Risk Analyst also exercises considerable judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results that align with the UC Standing Orders, policies, and other requirements that impact UC's programs of self-insurance.

Department Description

The Office of Risk Advisory and Insurance Services is responsible for identifying and developing strategies to minimize the impact of risk through efficient stewardship of financial, operational, and strategic resources. We manage UC's programs of self-insurance at UCSF and offer subject-matter expertise to stakeholders across UCSF to guide them toward effective and considered management of their unique risks. By managing risk, we can mitigate loss and create greater financial stability, and protect our most valuable resource, our community, in support of UCSF's mission to advance health worldwide.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and 8-10 years of directly related experience, or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advanced knowledge in the following areas: risk management; insurance; forecasting and analysis; accounting; litigation; contracts; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge of organizational processes and procedures; understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
  • Advanced ability to develop course materials and deliver content effectively to diverse populations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the third-party risk management lifecycle, to include planning, due diligence, contracts, ongoing monitoring and termination.
  • Effective project management skills with the ability to track, manage and meet multiple transactions/projects/deadlines in a visible and high-volume position.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, and effective team leadership skills. Experience in management by influencing, facilitating, and gaining consensus.
  • In-depth ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing. Ability to understand, interpret, and clearly communicate matters of policy and law to multiple constituencies
  • Advanced ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in offering advice to diverse stakeholders on the legal aspects of contract development. Demonstrated contract crafting and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Professional certification in risk management, law, and/or contracting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of academic affairs and the risks specific to academic environments. Keen knowledge of the UC system is preferred, including its infrastructure, missions, policies, guidelines, etc.
  • Broad knowledge of privacy regulations pertinent to UCSF (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, state breach notification laws), and the ability to work collaboratively with internal subject-matter experts at all levels on complex contractual issues related to such regulations.
