JOBSUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Communications Specialist will perform a full range of activities in support of the district's marketing efforts, with primary emphasis on social media strategy development and content creation, graphic design, and visual brand implementation.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS Create content and execute social media posts related to various topics through photography, video creation, and copy development. Support the creation of internal and external marketing materials - for use in various channels including, but not limited to flyers, brochures, website, social media, etc. Draft newsletters, routine press releases, emails, and social media content by gathering information from a variety of sources, drafting copy/content, assisting with editing/proofreading information, reviewing, and gathering data, and preparing information for print. Responds to standard inquiries and provide information regarding department operations, policies, and procedures. Resolves routine issues independently and refers more complex situations to the appropriate party. Keeps abreast of marketing and design trends through continued education and professional growth. Attends conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate. Support Community Relations and Customer Service Supervisor at various events in the community (occasional evening/weekend). Track media articles mentioning MST for monthly board reports and provide pdf to Board Clerk. Prepare standard correspondence, records, documents, reports, and other related information. Proofread and edit documents, promotional materials, and other communications. Develop and maintain logs, databases, spreadsheets, and other reports. Create and work with MST Operations department and contracted service providers to coordinate the installation of interior bus cards and other marketing materials. Manage inventory of marketing materials and supplies including but not limited to brochures and signage. Coordinates with the planning department on website updates for bus schedule information as well as content for onboard bus information. Support coordination and execution of internal and external agency campaigns and events. Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of communications and marketing concepts and strategies.
SKILLS Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and a variety of related software, and the ability to master new technologies. Skills in advanced word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and graphic design. Intermediate video creation/editing and photography skills and a thorough understanding of social media management and strategy.
ABILITY Ability to produce content that can be used across different platforms and create social media and website content consistent with MST standards. Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with employees, professional contacts, community leaders, the media, and the public. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, problem- solve, and work effectively within deadlines and changes in work priorities. Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts verbally and in writing. Ability to approach, connect, and engage with passengers/community, staff, and partners to conduct interviews, and take photographs/videos for social media content development.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, and a minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated experience planning and/or managing social media platforms, preferred. One or more years of experience in office administration, communication, marketing, or related field is desired. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, social media monitoring, and digital tools such as Hootsuite. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Proof of COVID vaccination required. Good driving record; possess valid California driver's license at the time of application; Per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, must be prepared to offer documents to support employment eligibility. Ability to obtain a valid California Drivers' License and Covid vaccination.
