There are no direct reports with this position.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision the Irrigation Technician provides technical and skilled labor operating equipment for the installation, maintenance and repair of computerized irrigation systems to ensure plant material and lawn care meets customer standards.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1. * Performs varied semi-skilled and skilled maintenance duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of commercial irrigation systems; areas of responsibility, include, but are not limited to, installation, operation, maintenance, and inspection of irrigation systems.
2. * Operates vehicles and a variety of tools and power equipment used in irrigation installation and maintenance.
3. * Assists with monitoring inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining purchase records within authorized budget.
4. * Perform site assessments to ensure proper soil moisture for the local plant material.
5. * Digging in established landscapes and in a variety of soil conditions.
6. * Performs inspections of irrigation systems for proper operation.
7. * Install irrigation components, clocks and other irrigation devices ensuring that they function efficiently.
8. * Repairing and maintaining valves, tracing electrical components, locating existing zones and valves, and performing pump repairs.
9. * Prepare necessary documents and reports in a timely manner.
10. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
12. Maintains a safe work environment and performs all duties in a safe manner. Observes and adhere to all safety rules required by the organization and regulatory agencies. Reports all safety violations to management.
13. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Two years of relevant work experience; Irrigation Technician Certification (CIT) highly preferred;
- Knowledge of commercial landscape computerized irrigation systems;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools, and materials used in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of landscaped irrigation systems;
- Knowledge of uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of landscaped irrigation systems;
- Ability to work independently;
- Mathematical skills to include the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
- Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business, operational and strategic management problems;
- Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
* Perform medium to heavy physical work, work around machines, climb and descend ladders, operate a variety of tools and equipment, and operate a motor vehicle.
* Ability to distinguish colors in wiring.
* Employee is regularly required to be able to reach overhead.
* Be able to work in various positions, including but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time.
* Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
* Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout the assigned workday

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily outdoors in all types of extreme weather conditions and involves use of chemicals, pesticides, and other substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Work pressures and disturbances of workflow and irregularities in work schedule are expected. Travel to other sites is required.
