Position Summary

The primary function will support the Space Systems Command (SSC) Narrowband Satellite Communications (CGN)/Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) contract. The candidate will support MUOS Baseline Space assisting the 10th Space Operations Squadron (10 SOPS) with operations and maintenance of the MUOS constellation and monitoring of constellation health. The Radio Frequency Engineer must have a good understanding of satellite interfaces to RF ground stations, spacecraft operations, and user terminals.

Key Responsibilities:

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

  • Analyzing requirements based on scientific and engineering, hardware, and software technical baselines.
  • Participate in modeling, simulation, and analysis of link budgets, power budgets, and network performance. Link Budgets span Ka and UHF bands and include channel effects analysis.
  • Reviewing hardware and software designs for spacecraft, ground station RF and digital signal processing, software waveforms, and various support equipment in the following bands: Ka, S, L and UHF.
  • Providing recommendations on systems integration and engineering baseline changes and assessing the technical maturity and risk of development projects.
  • Providing technical oversight and recommendations related to effective testing and validating system requirements. Reviewing test reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in developing / reviewing operational procedures for various waveforms, to include network management, mission planning, and network handover.
  • Assessing and integrating engineering activities across multiple projects and multiple program areas.
  • Preparing, reviewing, editing reports and briefings.
  • Attending project meetings and reviews to include technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and program management reviews.
  • Assisting the Government in analyzing contractor concept designs at the system and subsystem levels.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or aerospace engineering, physics, or equivalent technical field
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in the design, development, and or implementation of RF links and communication systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience and comfort with Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, RF equipment, and various software tools needed for lab level development and test of RF systems.
  • Experience with one or more scenario level link budget modeling tools, such as STK and AFSIM.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, and dynamic environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Position requires ability to access classified network systems (e.g., SIPRNet and JWICS) at DoD or approved Contractor facilities at least several times per week.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance is required

    Compensation for California: Starting salary ranges from $100,000 to $130,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
