Job Description

Coordinator-HIM Compliance role is a hybrid position; position will not be hybrid until employee is fully trained.

Job Summary: The Coordinator-HIM conducts regular quality audits for accurateness and timely completion of work done by staff. Responsibilities include medical record reviews, data collection, chart abstractions, reporting, and analysis. Works closely with management in communicating audit results. Works with management to create and/or update department procedures as necessary and in response to findings and/or workflow changes. Reports and represents HIM findings and current processes in organizational (LLUMC, LLUHS & LLUCH) meetings. Performs data collection, entry, aggregation, analysis and reporting of information as related to performance standards, education, quality and safety improvement specific to and supporting regulatory (JCAHO, CMS, CDPH, etc.) requirements. Problem solves, troubleshoots, and appropriately escalates issues to higher level management as necessary. Works with students when needed. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management required. Minimum one year of experience in Health Information Management required, preferably within an acute care setting or two years of acceptable related experience in a healthcare field may be used in lieu of direct HIM experience. Minimum two years of quality management experience with familiarity of HIM, CMS, and Joint Commission standards preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential obtained within six months from hire date required. Valid Driver's License required at time of hire.
