This Senior Data Engineer sits in the CMG Data Management & Architecture team (DMA) within Strategic Analytics & Intelligence (SAI). This team plays a key role in data engineering, data integration and data quality, from strategy, governance and implementation across the portfolio and helps shape the data needs to enable Roche's global customer engagement vision, strategy, and solutions across our global programs.

The Opportunity

The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for the development, management, and delivery of a robust data engineering and architecture, to build Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) Data Pipelines, Data Integration, Data Governance (Data Quality, Data Security) for Genentech.

• You will shape and implement the evolving data governance model, as it relates to management and usage of data across different functions including Commercial, Medical Affairs & Govt. Affairs.

• As a data engineering expert, you will work closely with Data Science teams, Data Lake Architects, Product Managers, Data Strategy and Enablement leads to understand ETL / Data Integration and Engineering requirements, design, test and implement appropriate data engineering solutions.

• The Senior Data Engineer will forge strong relationships with stakeholders & partners to lead, inform, gain alignment, unlock & resolve complex business challenges, continuously evaluate cutting edge data engineering solutions, influence the future roadmap and drive end-end implementation.

• You will define, build test and implement Data Engineering - ETL, Data Integrations, Data Governance, Data Quality, for CMG (Commercial, Medical Affairs, Access Solutions and Government Affairs)

• The Senior Data Engineer will lead, consult and participate in CMG work products to drive Data Engineering Solutions

• You will establish industry standard and best practices for Data Engineering

• You will build reusable Data Engineering assets and frameworks

Who You Are:

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• 10+ years of work experience including hands-on technical experience with SQL, Python, PySpark, Jupyter Notebook, database design, and ETL processes

• The ideal candidate will have proven experience on building modern data pipelines - Ingestion, Profiling, Integration, Summarization / Aggregation, Logging, Orchestrations, DAG etc

• You're experience building Data Quality frameworks / solutions, Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is strong

• You have proven hands-on experience with cloud-based data warehousing / data lake platforms such as AWS S3, Athena, Glue, AWS Wrangler, Sagemaker Studio, GitRepo, CloudWatch, Lambda

• You have experience with data modeling, architecture and database schema design

• You have experience handling semi-structured (JSON, Key Value Pair) and unstructured data formats (Free text, documents etc.)

• This position is based in South San Francisco and relocation benefits are not available.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $156,300 - $290,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
