Position Summary:
The Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning is comprised of three divisions, the Division of Undergraduate Education, Division of Summer Session and the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation. Our mission is to promote students' academic and future success through campus and community partnerships by supporting faculty in pedagogy and by supporting students within our many academic programs.
Under the general direction of the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (OVPTL) Associate Vice Provost, the Director of Finance has budgetary and financial responsibility to manage, prepare, administer, and direct the complete financial portfolio of OVPTL resources and activities, which includes operational functions in the Division of Undergraduate Education, Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation and the Division of Summer Session. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Responsible for the development of OVPTL-wide budgetary processes and procedures, coordinating the budget planning and allocation process, implementing and maintaining effective accounting systems and management control for all financial resources across the OVPTL enterprise. Ensure the proper management and use of funds, including state, recharge, fee income, contracts & grants, and donor gifts. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control within divisional units and monitors division and department adherence to approved budget. Manages the activities of the financial analyst staff team. Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Provides analyses and recommendations on a variety of complex OVPTL-wide issues, focusing on the resource needs of units and OVPTL projects. Directs fiscal closing. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules. As a member of the management team, is accountable to the Associate Vice Provost for resource and policy analysis to support OVPTL management and long-range strategic planning. Acts as a consultant to units regarding resources, effective fiscal management, and University policies and procedures.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $100,600.00 - $150,000.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $100,600.00 - $190,800.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:
  • 7-10 years direct experience in finance accounting and people management at a higher education institution, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of finance and budget policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Thorough knowledge of grant accounting, sales and service accounting, and foundation fund management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Client services oriented; good listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to apply critical thinking skills to analyze problems and apply effective solutions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion and demonstrate independence in identifying complex problems and proposing innovative solutions.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent multitasking and follow-through skills; able to work under pressure managing multiple projects with attention to details.
  • Knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills to motivate, inspire, develop, and support staff.

  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work and interact with diverse populations.


Preferred:
  • Professional certification preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of UC financial systems and policies.
