Eligible for Hybrid Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Both UC & Non-UC locations)

Max of 2 days per week hybrid scheduling as long as hybrid arrangements are approved by the Division of Institutional Advancement. University has the authority to change or revoke hybrid scheduling with reasonable notice. Incumbent must be available to be in the office full time should operational needs require it.

The UCSB Alumni Association/Office of Alumni Affairs seeks to serve and involve UCSB alumni and students; to enlist alumni talents in the preservation and promotion of UC Santa Barbara's image, tradition, pride and status as a world-class university. The UCSB Alumni Association is 501C3 non-profit corporation comprised of dues paying members and a board of directors. The Office of Alumni Affairs is a department within UC Santa Barbara's Division of Institutional Advancement, which works to further public understanding and recognition of UC Santa Barbara and its important mission as a leading research university, and to develop support for the institution, politically as well as financially.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will spearhead a robust and engaging Gaucho Professionals Program that encompasses diverse program activities including the Gaucho Academy, Professional Digital Engagement through Gaucho Network, LinkedIn, and other digital communication initiatives. The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will also coordinate regional and local networking events such as "Launch your Network" and "Welcome to the City." Using the strategic plan as guide, the Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will cultivate strategic and collaborative partnerships with various campus departments and student led organizations with the goal of fostering connections between alumni, students, and UCSB. The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will create opportunities to showcase the talents of our alumni, build strong network connections between alumni, and align with the goals of campus partners. Success in this position requires highly developed communication and organizational skills, demonstrated leadership capacity, and ability to comprehend, interpret, and communicate policies effectively. The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement should thrive in working with diverse individuals, excel under pressure, have strong relationship management experience, and independently meet deadlines. As an external facing member of the Programs Team, the Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will be expected to acquire an extensive knowledge of all Alumni Affairs programming and benefits, and stay abreast of current UCSB news to serve as a valuable resource for interested alumni and campus partners. Acting with Sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality are essential attributes, along with the ability to anticipate job requirements and effectively prioritize and coordinate multiple complex tasks. Flexibility is key, as this role requires frequent travel and availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1-3 years Program development and implementation experience, preferably with a focus on professional development, job coaching, recruitment, and/or mentorship.
  • 1-3 years Event planning experience
  • 1-3 years Marketing and communication experience.
  • 1-3 years Collaborative team work experience, preferably in an educational environment
  • Must possess proficient knowledge of MS Office, Google Workspace, LinkedIn, and ability to quickly learn various software programs.

  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in event planning
  • Strong time-management, writing and administrative skills
  • Experience with Program design and implementation
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Familiarity with social networking platforms
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently meet deadlines.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

  • 35% Regional Professional Networking - The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement, in collaboration with key regional alumni stakeholders, will develop and oversee professional development programming for regional alumni. Responsibilities include all aspects of planning and implementation of meaningful professional focused events (both in-person and online) and collaborating with program team members to develop marketing materials, strategic communication timelines and outreach plans.
  • 35% Career Mentorship and Recruitment - The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement develops robust mentorship activities for alumni and students that include online and in-person opportunities for connection. Cultivates strategic partnerships with alumni, campus departments student led organizations, and other UC alumni leaders in order to provide quality professional development programming and to facilitate connections between alumni, students, and the university. Executes the strategic plan as it relates to professional development programming, creates opportunities to showcase alumni talents, and aligns initiatives with the goals of campus partners. Success in this position necessitates strong communication, initiative, organizational skills, demonstrated leadership capacity, and the ability to comprehend, interpret, and communicate policies effectively. The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will oversee the Alumni Affairs' successful "Gaucho Academy" and Launch Your Network programs. The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will promote recruitment of UCSB alumni and current students through a combination of efforts including: (1) partnering with the Career Services department to identify and build relationships with alumni employers who are recruiting and hiring students and alumni (2) Partnering with the UC Alumni Career Network and ensuring strong UCSB alumni participation at the annual UC Hire Fair (3) Providing exposure for UCSB alumni, job recruiter, and friends of UCSB to post job openings, both for graduating students as well as alumni.
  • 20% Digital Career Engagement Initiatives - The Manager of Alumni Professional Engagement will manage multiple online career platforms. These currently include Gaucho Network and various UC Santa Barbara Alumni LinkedIn groups.
  • 10% Alumni Association Event Manager - Working with the Associate Director and Programs Director, support and coordinate alumni events that support the Alumni Associations strategic plan of engaging alumni. Assist Programs Director with execution and evaluation of All Gaucho Reunion to ensure overall event success to desired metrics.
