Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Custodial Supervisor, leads a team of custodians in a research environment. Assist the supervisor in administration of daily operations, and monitors work in progress by applying advance knowledge in all phases of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting processes and floor care techniques. Oversees campus events, projects, and supply distribution. Ensures all custodial duties required to maintain Campus buildings clean are performed in accordance with Institute safety standards and regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA, and CDC guidelines.)

Essential Job Duties

In coordination and cooperation with other Facilities trades and shops, perform various leadership and custodial duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operates and applies advanced knowledge of floor care techniques and cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting techniques, which use specialized equipment or processes in different research environments.
  • Trains newly hired custodial personnel to ensure development requirements are maintain and monitors work in progress.
  • Maintain established standards of performance and perform daily inspections of custodial zone areas.
  • In conjunction with the Custodial Supervisor analyses workflow, provides work schedule recommendations, creates reports, and oversees day-to-day operations.
  • Assumes supervisory responsibilities during Custodial Supervisor's absence.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots custodial equipment and performs minor repairs as needed.
  • Oversees and monitors personnel on proper cleaning techniques of Campus fountains and filter and backwash techniques.
  • Assists with purchasing, time keeping, evaluations and work scheduling.
  • Responsible for monthly supply inventory and supply distribution.
  • Responds to campus emergencies after hours, assess damages, and prepares reports.
  • Demonstrate ability to work and communicate with all levels of campus personnel.
  • Collaborate with other Facilities Management staff to ensure productivity, consistency, quality, and efficiency expectations are met.
  • Responsible for key control and distribution of work assignments.
  • Assist with management of timekeeping (Kronos) and Work Order (AiM) system daily, which facilitates information for quality assurance and performance measures.
  • Operates vehicles, lift gate trucks, and forklifts, for moving supplies and equipment throughout Campus and off-campus facilities.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including weekends, work any assigned shift when needed to complete projects, and perform all other assigned duties.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent; and ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of custodial customers.
  • At least 3-5 years working as a custodian in a leadership position in a fast pace educational or commercial environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable of advance cleaning techniques and be able to operate different type of floor care equipment.
  • Ability to effectively manage and provide leadership for a large group of employees in a highly diverse environment.
  • A valid California Driver's license and forklift certification or be able to obtain one before employment begins and maintain it throughout the course of employment.
  • Must be able to work assigned work scheduled hours. Schedule 1 (5:00am - 1:30pm - Monday - Friday).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at heights and be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to walk, push, pull, climb, twist, stoop, and bend to accomplish job requirements on a consistent basis.

Hiring Range

$22.00 - $27.00 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
