The Job
The Video Editor is responsible for assembling recorded footage into a finished project that aligns with the NHRA vision and is suitable for broadcasting. This position will primarily edit a variety of video production projects, be an independent superior visual storyteller, and be able to develop, create, and execute the highest quality television and digital productions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Offline/Online editing of long-format television shows in network format.
- Edit, encode, and upload video and other digital assets in a timely fashion under shifting deadlines and pressures.
- Tell visual stories through editing with pictures and sound.
- Incorporate multiple cameras and shoots to tell a cohesive story.
- Edit and design sound on long and short format videos.
- Review audio and visual footage.
- Use computer software to organize clips into a cohesive unit.
- Add appropriate sound effects or graphics.
- Review the finished product to catch errors before submitting it for review.
- Assemble raw footage and transfer or upload to a computer.
- Follow a script, screenplay, or outline.
- Input sound to enhance footage, which may include selecting music and writing voice-overs.
- Input graphics to enhance footage.
- Review and correct lighting, color grading, and editing.
- Work closely with directors to present a final product that matches their vision.
Minimum Skills/Experience/Education Requirements
- A BS preferably in a media-related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of required experience editing and logging in a television production environment.
- Proven work experience as a Video Editor.
- Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio required.
- Ability to manipulate footage, create graphics, and edit in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects preferred.
- Superior video storytelling abilities.
- Familiarity with special effects, 3D, and compositing is preferred.
- Preferred experience with multi-channel audio editing and sound design.
- Some motion graphics experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation, and continuity.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Media Asset Management.
- The ability to manage projects, build promotional relationships and participate within cross-functional teams is required.
- Must be proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Attention to detail with an ability to innovate and work independently with minimal supervision on a project-by-project basis, occasionally under tight deadlines.
- Must have strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbal with all levels of management.
- A background in sports or motorsports racing is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to work at a computer all day.
- Ability to talk on the phone as needed.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50lbs.
- Ability to travel via air or car as needed to races.
