GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Director, Mission Systems Program Management is responsible for managing the Mission Systems (subsystems/payloads which provide mission capability beyond basic aircraft flight systems) programs throughout the product life cycle to including conceptual, development, and manufacturing; ensuring performance requirements are met while meeting cost, schedule, quality, and forecasted business plans and growth. The Director, Mission Systems Program Management must have an in-depth technical understanding of complex aerospace systems and experience managing complex system programs. In addition, the Director, Mission Systems Program Management must have excellent leadership, project management, communication, and customer management skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Proactively provides organization leadership, develops business plans & growth strategies, manages program(s) execution to meet contract and company commitments for Mission Systems programs, and for mission systems elements in Platform-focused programs.,
  • Establish Mission System(s) product baseline(s) to include technical engineering design documentation including but not limited to: requirements documents, performance specifications, system schematics, subsystem specifications, standard suite of software engineering documents, Engineering Bill of Materials, and maintain comprehensive configuration management of the complete system throughout its life cycle.
  • Ensures efficient, effective and productive team activities are realized through development, maintenance and management of Mission Systems master plans and schedules including mission systems architecture and requirements definition, idevelopment, procurement, manufacturing, sustainment, and product enhancements.
  • Develops achievable Mission Systems program performance requirements including technical performance, financial objectives, contract and subcontract management, customer relationship management, and resource management. Drives performance and ensures current customer expectations and company objectives are met.
  • Provides oversight and leadership for the Mission System(s) portfolio of products and ensures contractual requirements are met.
  • Responsible for proposal development, program performance, P&L, and business growth.
  • Prepares comprehensive Mission System(s) program performance reports required by contract and company management tempo.
  • Proactively develops plans, drives actions, leads issue resolution, and effectively communicates to customers, teammates/partners/subcontractors, and other company personnel.
  • Champions root cause analysis and comprehensive corrective action across the Mission Systems portfolio of products.i
  • Establishes and maintains an excellent relationship with customers.
  • Follows safety precautions and ensures program team members operate safely at all times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: i

  • Directly manages Program Managers and Program Teams. Works in collaboration with functional management to forecast and resource Programs. Champions program management tempo ensuring ireal time status and visibility including comprehensive return to green plans when off plan.

COMPENSATION:

$215,000 - $230,000

Required Experience:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High degree of leadership capability with technical expertise in aerospace/defense Mission Systems overall, architecture, Development, and T&E.
  • Proactive, initiative-based work style.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, staff, control and direct complex software and hardware engineering (development) and production projects using tools and techniques (with advanced understanding) associated with earned value, risk and schedule management.
  • A thorough understanding of engineering, development technologies, and applicable military and commercial specifications and standards.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead major subcontractors and suppliers in meeting challenging schedules.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and team building skills.
  • Able to effectively direct goal oriented activities of a geographically diverse Team in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
  • This individual must possess a strong combination of technical skills, program management skills, and sales and negotiation skills.
  • Senior level technical and cost performance management experience using EVMS principles.
  • Demonstrated mastery of development and use of Integrated Master Plans and Schedules (IMP/IMS), Risk and Opportunity Management Plans, use of a Structured Decision and Analysis Resolution process.

Desirable Skills:

  • Masteris degree in Engineering or Engineering Management.
  • Business degree or business management experience.
  • Familiarity with contract provisions applicable to contracts and subcontracts.
  • Leadership experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Formal program management training and US military background.
  • Certified CMM program life cycle process implementation experience.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100 requirements.
  • Hands-on skills in the areas of desktop computer applications (MSOffice), proposal development, and the opportunity management process.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bacheloris degree or higher in one of the following areas of study; Engineering, Business, or Finance.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in one of the following core competencies; Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance. Ideally in support of Department of Defense acquisition programs/projects.
  • Must be able to hold a Secret security clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office and or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be required to travel locally, domestically, and internationally
  • 50%+ if remotely located; ~25% if located at Kratos UAS facility
