Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Unix / Linux Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Eagan, MN. Hybrid remote work may be allowed but expect to be on-site 2-3 days/wk.

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

    Seek opportunities to enhance processes and streamline workflows, aiming to eliminate inefficiencies and optimize productivity within the dynamic environment.
  • Serve as a bridge between infrastructure support teams and application development teams, ensuring seamless coordination and effective communication in continuous deployment activities.
  • Continuously assess and update infrastructure components to align with evolving technology stacks, minimizing repetitive tasks and maintaining a current and efficient infrastructure environment.
  • Identify areas for automation and implement solutions to accelerate work processes, enabling infrastructure teams to deliver products earlier, consistently, and with greater reliability.
  • Demonstrate a strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration, including troubleshooting operating systems such as SLES and RHEL, and performing lifecycle activities such as system build, patching, and decommissioning.
  • Leverage Ansible and/or Ansible Tower (AWX) for automation purposes, alongside other automation/configuration management tools like Jenkins, Puppet, or Chef, to streamline and optimize tasks.
  • Exhibit fluency in multiple scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Ruby, utilizing them to automate processes and enhance efficiency in day-to-day operations.
  • Harness a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud services to address business needs and improve infrastructure efficiency.
  • Integrate Git for version control and employ DevOps automation tools like Docker and Ansible to facilitate continuous deployment practices and ensure smooth deployment processes.
  • Utilize DevOps monitoring tools such as Nagios and Splunk to monitor infrastructure health, identify issues proactively, and maintain optimal system performance.
  • Utilize Jenkins and its add-on plugins, including Jenkins DSL plugin, to automate tasks and streamline workflows, adhering to best practices and ensuring always-available services.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years or a Master's degree and 3 years of experience or a High School diploma and 9 years of experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder).
  • Must be able to obtain a USPS Postal Clearance.
  • Experience with Solaris or SuSE Linux systems in a large scale production environment
  • Experience with proficiency in Linux System Administration: Demonstrated ability in designing and administering Linux system builds, ensuring robust and efficient system performance.

  • Experience with mastery of Scripting Languages: Proficient in scripting languages such as bash, ksh, perl, python, ruby, etc., leveraging them to automate tasks and enhance operational efficiency.

  • Experience with understanding of IT Service Level Agreements (SLAs): Knowledgeable about IT service level agreements, ensuring adherence to service standards and meeting customer expectations.

  • Experience with performance monitoring and tuning: Skilled in performance monitoring, tuning, and debugging techniques, utilizing tools like GTF traces, region and transaction dumps to optimize system performance.

  • Experience with proficient in Process/Product Testing: Experienced in process and product testing and verification, ensuring the reliability and functionality of IT systems and applications.

  • Experience with familiarity with IT Platforms and Products: Knowledgeable about IT platforms and products such as Red Hat OpenShift, Puppet, Ansible, Ansible Tower, and VMWare/vSphere, enabling effective management and utilization of these technologies.

  • Experience with integration of Build Automation: Proficient in integrating build automation into daily processes, including server builds, patching, and configuration analysis, to streamline operations and improve efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active USPS security clearance.
  • Knowledge of Oracle CRS
  • Solid understanding of RHEL 7
  • Proven knowledge with Python or Ruby scripting
  • Proven knowledge of Docker or Jenkins
  • Red Hat Certifications are a plus.
  • Strong in the use of continuous integration and delivery processes and toolsLocal to the Eagan, MN area, no relocation assistance provided.

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
