Job Summary: The Graduate Registered Nurse Anesthetist (GRNA) has graduated from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and has successful passed the National Certification Examination administered by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetist. The role is designed to meet the needs of new graduates as they transition into the role of a competent, successful Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital (LLUCH). Under the supervision of a CRNA or anesthesiologist, who is directly available during the entire course of anesthesia at all LLUMC and LLUCH affiliated sites, the GRNA provides comprehensive anesthesia care (general anesthesia, procedure-related sedation, and regional techniques); determines age-specific (neonatal through later adult) anesthesia plan prior to induction; communicates effectively throughout anesthetic episode; applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in anesthesia care; utilizes discretion and independent judgment in the delivery of whole-person care; practices within the CRNA scope of practice and follows LLUMC policies, protocols, techniques, guidelines, and state and federal regulations; utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Graduation from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia required. Clinical experience providing anesthesia care as a CRNA or student nurse anesthetist within the last twelve months preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Valid California Registered Nurse license required. Current certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) required. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications by the American Heart Association required.
