Role Summary

The role of Senior Mechanical Engineer- - Interior Trim is viewed as the "CEO" of the parts for which they are responsible. During the forward model development phase the engineer is responsible for using CATIA to design parts that deliver all intended part functions while also maintaining compatibility with all criteria for adjacent engineering functional activities (i.e. Structures, Closures, Sealing, LVE, Seating & Restraints, Cockpit) and attribute targets (i.e. Safety (Regulatory), Occupant Package, Interior Package, Perceived Quality, NVH, Water Leaks, Durability). Additionally, the engineer must manage the part design to meet established targets for Variable Cost, Investment, Mass and Timing. The engineer is also responsible for working within the ENOVIA tool to document Production Release of parts and to execute part Design Changes. This is an on-site role at our design headquarters in Irvine, CA.


Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Interior Trim components (Door Trim Panels, Hard Trim, Overhead Systems, Soft
    Trim and /or Cargo Systems) for Rivian vehicles from concept through production
  • Manage internal resources, interface with suppliers, and partner with all Rivian organizations
  • Research, establish and achieve targets for performance, appearance, quality, cost, timing and mass
  • Develop criteria required for sourcing, prototyping, testing and manufacturing activities
  • Create and maintain requirements, performance specifications and Design Verification Plan & Report
    (DVP&R)
  • Work collaboratively with studio designers to develop class A surface themes that meet manufacturing
    feasibility, functional and cost targets
  • Develop CAD data (2D sections and 3D studies) using CATIA V6 software
  • Lead supplier meetings, guide design reviews and resolve / track cross-functional system and
    component issues
  • Maintain EBOMs and manage data releases in accordance with program milestones and targets
  • Consistently demonstrate a first-principles approach

Qualifications

  • B.S.E. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience in automotive interior development (7+ preferred)
  • Ability to self-direct and adapt quickly to program changes
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and certification requirements
  • High proficiency with standard 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA V5 and/or V6

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range California-Based Applicants:$107,000 -$134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).
