Builds the infrastructure to ensure we're well equipped to lead, report on, and inspect Accessibility Health Metrics across Salesforce Technology and Products; creates/optimizes toolset for engineers and others around Salesforce to meet Definition of Done (DoD) (including Sa11y, assisted automation tools, and others); uses AI to increase effectiveness of our automated tooling and efficiency across our accessibility issue lifecycle

The role

Salesforce Product Accessibility and Inclusive Design team seeks an AI and Accessibility (A11y) Architect to help us deliver high-quality, high-impact automation solutions that leverage AI to build and validate accessible solutions for Salesforce's applications. You will work on designing and bringing extraordinary AI driven solutions to deliver products used by millions of people with disabilities every day. You will work with a team of product accessibility experts, software developers, product managers, AI research scientists, and user experience designers.

In addition to technical skills and data fluency/analytical skills, an ideal candidate is also a great multi-functional collaborator. Working within this large organization and at the scale of delivery, you invest in communication to build alignment and influence others to help deliver what is necessary to make Salesforce a leader in AI for accessible applications.

A day in the life will be:

Designing and delivering high-impact machine learning solutions to our collaborators across a breadth of use cases
  • Be responsible for end-to-end architecture of AI solutions for a11y automation.

  • Work on systems that bring automated a11y checks, GPT, NLP, image and video analysis, classifications and numeric predictions, and other AI methodologies to life for our internal customers and partners to create accessible code patterns and perform validation for accessible code.

  • Work with multiple experienced teams and find opportunities for improving our multi-tenant machine learning pipelines.

  • Set the standard for machine learning excellence in the teams you work with, and collaborating across Salesforce. Help design experiments through agile data science processes. Mentor individuals on the team.

  • Bring new technologies and frameworks to our teams. Collaborate with platform engineering and AI research to help guide and design solutions for new machine learning services, tools and approaches for multi-product, multi-tenant solutions.

Participating in early conceptualization and development
  • Influence how Salesforce teams build and test accessible code, and finding new, high-impact methods to deliver business value.

  • Partner end-to-end with Engineering and Product Managers, Application Architects, Data Scientists, Accessibility SMEs, Designers and Researchers where appropriate to understand requirements, design prototypes, and bring innovative technologies to production delivery systems.

  • Cultivate an environment of learning and rapid iteration.

Additional Responsibilities/Duties
  • Design a11y automation frameworks that are enterprise scalable and maintainable. Able to consider a variety of data use cases.

  • Drive strategic technology initiatives around product a11y, working with Product Managers, other Architects, Engineers, SMEs and the broader Salesforce organization.

  • Work in a consultative fashion to improve communication, collaboration and alignment among teams inside and outside of the organization.

  • Analyze and provide recommendations on automation strategy.

  • Influence long-range product a11y requirements, standard processes, and operational guidelines, with a focus on continuous improvement of platform reliability and serviceability.

  • Drive research, case studies, and prototypes on innovative technologies and how they can be used.

  • Ensure that we are continuously raising our standard of a11y and disability inclusion.

Skills and Experience
  • Mastery in multiple machine learning/generative AI methodologies.

  • Experience with WCAG, ARIA, Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and specifications.

  • Experience with automation at scale for code quality within an enterprise setting.

  • Experience with axe-core or other a11y test frameworks.

  • Experience with programming in multiple languages, and navigating multiple services in a platform.

  • Strong background in deploying Machine Learning solutions to production environments.

  • Ability to independently design and deliver large complex projects at scale.

  • Ability to provide (informal) coaching to team members to support their understanding of the architecture and aid in their technical development.

  • Experience with Agile development methodology (e.g., Scrum).

  • Advanced soft skills and mastery of working with teams who may not have any understanding of inclusive design or a11y.

  • Ability to collaborate well both virtually and in person; to establish relationships that span the globe and willing to accommodate Pacific, Eastern, and India time zones.

  • Ability to work with other architects, principal architects, and Chief Technology Officers to shape the architectural vision and roadmap for the organization.

  • Ability to guide teams on quality/model performance issues and solutions for testing/experimenting before going to production.

  • Ability to drive long-term design strategies that span multiple complex projects, deliver technical reports and performance presentations to customers and at industry events.

  • Ability to create an environment for honest and open discussion of all issues. You involve the right people, from your team and others, to resolve critical issues.

  • Experience in short release cycles, and with the full software lifecycle.

Preferred qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience with a PhD or MS in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.

  • Alternatively, 10+ years of experience with a BS in a relevant discipline.

  • Practical experience is highly valued and can complement or supplement formal education.

For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $203,800 to $310,800.For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $224,100 to $341,900.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
